Rejoicing in the Nativity

Many years ago my mother, Inez Norton, made each of her children a Nativity set. We may have still been in college or perhaps newly graduated. She painstakingly painted each tiny ceramic piece giving careful attention to each detail. My dad, Oliver Norton, made the stable from sticks and wood in his workshop. For me, this is Christmas all wrapped up in this one moment. Every time I look at a Nativity scene I am reminded that the cry of a small baby in the night changed everything. Time is measured by his birth, B.C. and A.D., and our lives are changed by this one small child who was born in a stable to become our Savior.

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas with love.

  1. I love so many of your articles. I appreciate when you share about your family and what they
mean to you. Family is so important to me also. The recipies are so very good.
God bless you and your family, and Happy New Year

  2. Our church UCC has been making this exact set for over 3 generations. Children make them in bible school and by the time they are grown, they have a full set. Very cherished in our community.

  3. What a precious gift your mother gave to you that Christmas and for many yet to come!! Thank you for always being willing to share our Christ in your posts and for not being ashamed of His name.

  8. Beautiful! I know how special that gift is. I have the Navity Scene that was given to my mother on her first Christmas, 1920. The pieces have been glued together many times, but it would not be Christmas in our home without them.

  9. You are a blessing I’m my life. It is a gift each time one of the Hoffman Media publications arrives in my mailbox. I open each one with excitement and anticipation of seeing beautiful pictures, reading stories of other women and the experiences in their lives, and obtaining wonderful recipes. And I always begin by reading the message from you! Thank you for sharing your God-given talents with women all over the world. May you and your family be richly blessed in the coming year.
