We all know autumn is my favorite time of year. There are just so many amazing things these months bring! One of the season’s highlights is all of the fall harvest festivals.
Traditionally, these celebrations are held on the day of the Harvest Moon or the nearest Sunday.
The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, or the first official day of fall. Today, people everywhere hold festivities and carnivals all throughout the autumn season because we just can’t get enough of it!
Pumpkin festivals, pecan festivals, scarecrow festivals, apple harvest festivals—you name it and someone’s got it!
You should see Autumn at the Arboretum in Dallas, Texas. It’s open through November 22 and will continue to stun visitors with its whopping 90,000 pumpkins, squash, and gourds that make up their Pumpkin Village.
Autumn at the Arboretum was even named one of “America’s Best Pumpkin Festivals” by Fodor’s Travel and “One of the World’s 15 Most Breathtaking Gardens” by Architectural Digest.
Fall’s favorite flower will also make an appearance with 4,500 chrysanthemums sprinkled throughout the show of color.
And that’s just one fall harvest festival. They are all so warm and inviting—corn mazes for the kids, hayrides for the whole family, and fall garden vegetable and fruit picking to get your bounty for this season’s cooking.
Right here in Alabama, we have the nation’s largest peanut festival coming up the first week in November!
The National Peanut Festival celebrates the peanut harvest. The majority of the U.S. peanut crop is harvested within 100 miles of Dothan, Alabama, where the festival is held. How about that!
Known as the “Peanut Capital of the World,” Dothan has hosted this celebration since 1938. What started as a three-day event is now 10 days long and includes amusement rides, animal attractions, agricultural displays, concerts, and a parade. More than 160,000 people attend the fair every year, so make a road trip down South November 3–12.
